Magnesium contributes to multiple functions in the horse’s body. For example, Magnesium has a positive influence on muscle function, the nervous system and the mineral is good for the state of mind. In addition, Magnesium is good for concentration and plays a role in maintaining supple muscles and maintaining strong bones. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Magnesium Glycinate?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A commonly sold magnesium is the oxide or citrate. But there is also Magnesium glycinate. Magnesium glycinate and Magnesium citrate are both organic Magnesium compounds. Magnesium glycinate is bound to the amino acid Glycine. Because of this, Magnesium is seen by the body as an amino acid and will only be absorbed in the small intestine through amino acid receptors. This chelated form provides better stability of the mineral and increases its absorbability in the body. A major advantage of magnesium glycinate is that it does not react quickly with other substances in the gastrointestinal tract, making it less likely to cause digestive complaints, such as diarrhea, compared with magnesium citrate. In addition, magnesium bisglycinate is often praised for its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, allowing it to better reach the brain and potentially have a positive effect on cognitive functions. <\/p>\n

We do not recommend feeding magnesium as a year-round muscle support but for occasional use. Usually if the feed management is in good order and you feed a supplement such as Multipower or Green Caviar, for example, as muscle support, supplementing magnesium is not immediately necessary. <\/h5>\n

For example, it does in the following situations:<\/h4>\n

  • if you think your horse may be deficient in this or this has already been diagnosed by a veterinarian<\/li>\n
  • when your horse has been working hard and you expect that your horse or pony might experience muscle soreness.<\/li>\n
  • your horse quickly suffers from (muscle) tension<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
